Entry Requirements

ALL offers and subsequent enrolment onto a course are subject to meeting our entry requirements.

These come in two forms, both of which must be met to secure a place on a course:

1. Satisfactory reference.
2. Grade requirements.

Satisfactory Reference

Your existing school must provide you with a satisfactory reference, this must include evidence of the following:

  • good attitude to learning,
  • good behaviour,
  • good attendance and punctuality, and
  • your suitability to apply for a particular course/qualification.

Grade requirements

There are two types of grade entry requirements:

(a) Pathway entry requirements - these allow you to study certain types of qualification.

(b) Subject entry requirements - these allow you to study certain subjects, within a pathway.

(a) Pathway Entry Requirements

These are based on your predicted A8 score. Your A8 score is an average GCSE grade based on the double counting of English and Maths grades - see below the table for a link to see how you can calculate your A8.

How to Calculate your A8 score:

A8 Score - this is the average of your best GCSE scores including English and Maths, and is calculated as follows:

1. Multiply your Maths grade by 2.

2. Multiply your best English grade by 2.

3. Add the grades of your six next best subjects and add to numbers in point 1 &2 above.

4. Divide the total by 10, this your A8 score.

For example; your results are: Maths = 7, English Lit = 5, English Lang = 8, Biology = 7, Chemistry = 7, Physics = 6, Geography = 7, History = 8, French = 9.

Maths = 7 x 2 = 14

(Best) English = 8 x 2 = 16

Next best 6 are: French, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics = 9 +8+7+7+7+6+16+14 = 74

A8 Score
= 74/10 = 7.4
