16 to 19 tuition fund
2021 to 2022
Oaklands School has employed 6 academic mentors to help students catch up as a result of their missed learning and the 16-19 tuition fund will contribute to the cost of this. The mentors cover the subject areas of Mathematics, English, History and Science and are being utilised largely in KS5 in the first instance with support in A-levels and English and Maths retake. The mentors are working with small groups of students in order to have a high impact and allow for personalised learning as much as possible. In most cases, mentors are providing additional sessions on top of the students allocated learning hours for that subject; in a minority of cases, students are being removed from a session in order to have more personalised support. Group sizes range from 1-7. The mentors are working closely with other staff in the relevant departments and the impact will be monitored. All of the students involved have had their learning disrupted due to the pandemic and most are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds; it will include students who have not achieved a 4 or 5 in English and / or Maths GCSE. Students were selected by identifying those who have not achieved a 4 or 5 in Maths and / or English; many students were selected due to them having more significant gaps in learning compared to other students as a result of the pandemic.
